Day 1-  Abruzzo: Maiella National Park (L,D)
We will meet you in Pescara, Abruzzo as we wind our way up to nearly 700 m above sea level to our quaint hilltop village in Pennapiedimonte. You will be transferred to your delightful accommodation in the Apennines, bordering the Maiella National Park. There will be time to enjoy a rustic lunch and explore the village.
After a well earned rest - we will go for a high alpine walk along the shepherds tracks above the village. Stunning scenery awaits with occasional flocks of sheep and goats on the mountain side and ancient limestone gorges.
We transfer you to superb slow food restaurant where an enchanting degustation dinner awaits. Indulge in the best local Abruzzese ingredients savouring the very best the region has to offer with montepulciano and trebbiano wines and fine extra virgin olive oils.

 

Day 2 -  Medieval Castle – Truffle Hunting- Private Cooking Class  (B,L,Drinks)
Time to unwind and soak up the village Italy atmosphere over your morning cappuccino. This morning we transfer you to your private COOKING CLASS with a local Abruzzese lady who will share her passion for Abruzzese cooking. Prepare a 4 course lunch together using fresh and seasonal local ingredients. Learn the secrets of slow food as you create wonderful antipasti, traditional home made pasta, dessert and more… Sit down to a long leisurely country lunch with our hosts Amalia and Antonio whose award-winning olive oil is a must to taste. Be serenaded by Michael Howard, international tenor who will delight you with traditional Italian songs..This is truly a day to remember!
This afternoon we explore the medieval castle of Roccascalegna perched on a rocky outcrop above the Rio Secco. Learn of wonderful tales of barons and brigands..

 

 Day 3 –Guardiagrele - Maiella National Park - Apennines - (B,Picnic Lunch, D)
Our journey continues visiting the picturesque Maiella National Park and its villages with the stunning views of the Apennines as a perfect backdrop.
Depending on the season and availability, we learn all about how to find prized local truffles with our truffle hunter and his dogs as they search under the oak trees. Enjoy a relaxed picnic in the cool of the national park..
A private guided Walking tour of nearby Guardiagrele awaits this afternoon, visiting local artisans and shops including goldsmith, ceramic shops and wrought iron workshops. Meet wonderful locals, see fabulous village traditions and taste amazing local delights during your passeggiata and watch the world go by Italian style…

 

 Day 4 –ADRIATIC COASTLINE APENNINE WALK - PESCARA (B)
Enjoy a scenic drive to Fossacesia and marvel at the 'trabocchi' - unique, ancient fishing structures; as well as the majestic 11th century church of S. Giovanni in Venere overlooking the ancient olive groves and Adriatic coast. Sit at San Vito and enjoy your last caffe' or gelato in Abruzzo..ah la dolce vita!
Transfer you to Pescara station by early afternoon for your onward journey.
